Thankful Thursday

I am very thankful for my sister. She has a kind, special heart like no one else I know. We have endured our share of trials and I regret not being a better sister to her when we were growing up. I treasure the precious relationship we have developed as we have grown older. She will always be my best friend.

Last weekend, she came to visit from college. The weekend went by way too fast and I cried when she left, but I am thankful for the time we spent. Our time together is always special.

We ate delicious food, drank a lot of wine, napped from drinking so much wine, laughed a lot, analyzed relationships, got pedicures, watched The Runaways, sang in the car, went to a bar - twice, and got lost downtown. So much fun!

Thankful Thursday

I am thankful for breakfast with my friend, Sara. We meet a couple of times each month to grab a bite and catch up. This lovely lady is one of the kindest, smartest, funniest people I know. She is always understanding and has a unique ability to help me put things in perspective when I can't see clearly. I am extremely blessed to have her in my life.

I could not ask for a better friend.

My Place

I live in a cute, 2-bedroom apartment. It is not just any living space, it is my precious home. It is a place filled with love, laughter, and memories. My home is incredibly special to me because it is a reflection of who I am and things I love.

I love my photographs.

I love my huge, comfortable bed.

I love this reminder to seek peace wherever I go.

I love the stacks of books waiting to be explored.

I love the comfortableness of this space.

I love the sweet child that sleeps here.

                                            I love this home.

Thankful Thursday

Hello there, Thankful Thursday. I've been missing you.

Today I am thankful for concerts. Music is like religion to me; it makes my spirit happy. Last weekend I saw one of my favorite artists perform live and it was amazing. David Gray has been on my "bands to see before I die" list for many years and his show was brilliant. I am so grateful I was there.

I wasn't able to get any clear photos of the stage because of the lighting, but below is one of me and my friend, Ryan. Look at how happy we are!

Thank you, David Gray for an excellent show!

Walking

This past weekend, I went on a hike with some friends and my dog. The hike holds meaning for me for a couple of reasons. Number 1. I get to strike a line through an item on my 30 by 30 list. Number 2. I am reminded of how much walking is a meditation; a time for personal reflection. I am intrigued by the following thought from Rebecca Solnit that she shares in her book, Wanderlust. "The subject of walking is, in some sense, about how we invest universal acts with particular meanings. Like eating or breathing, it can be invested with wildly different cultural meanings, from the erotic to the spiritual, from the revolutionary to the artistic."

I believe we often forgo chance and hinder meaning as we drive around in our cars, always in a rush. We overlook experiences and abandon outlets when we do not walk. Soren Kierkegaard wrote, "In order to bear mental tension such as mine, I need diversion, the diversion of chance contacts on the streets and alleys because association with a few individuals is actually no diversion. It is the accidental and insignificant things in life which are significant."

I love that I can roam, wander, and choose to pursue a certain course. I love the option of chance, the unplanned and the unforeseen.

I cannot wait for my next walk.
